The first drink in our Squid Ink Cocktails series for Halloween is the Martintacles.
The Martintacles pays homage to the star ingredient, squid ink which adds a distinct briny character to the cocktail along with viscosity. The vodka-based drink is a Dirty Martini gone goth with caper berry brine and squid ink. A little dry vermouth gives it roundness. We prefer our Martinis stirred but this one is shaken with ice to ensure the squid ink is fully incorporated into the drink.
The squid ink Martini is served with whole caper berries and pickled squid tentacles on the side.
Martintacles: Squid Ink Martini Recipe
- 60 ml vodka
- 10 ml dry vermouth
- 1 bar spoon caper berry brine
- ½ bar spoon of squid ink
Glassware: Martini glass
Garnish: squid tentacles, whole caper berries with stem attached
In a cocktail shaker, add vodka, caper berry juice, squid ink, ice and shake until cold. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with squid tentacles pegged to the glass. Serve with a side of squid and whole caper berries.
