Gin meets Jägermeister in the Reverse Jäger Martini, a reverse cocktail that highlights the herbs and roots in the amaro with the gin botanicals.
With their bitter, sweet and herbal flavour profiles, amaro cocktails make for ideal sipping during the cooler months. The Reverse Jäger Martini is essentially a reverse gin martini in a 2:1 ratio where the amaro takes precedence.
In the Reverse Jäger Martini, we’ve used Jägermeister, a herbal liqueur made with 56 botanicals along with a London dry style of gin. If Jager bombs are what comes to mind in relation to the German liqueur, this article takes an in-depth look at Jägermeister beyond the shots.
The drink is stirred over ice. Grapefruit peel is expressed over the cocktail, accentuating the citrus and bitter notes of the amaro while adding a lingering aroma.
Unlike many reverse cocktails which tend to favour low ABV drinking, this amaro weighs in at 35% ABV making it a delicious and robust spirit-forward cocktail.
If you’re looking to impress guests at a dinner party or social gathering, give the Reverse Jäger Martini a go. It’s easy to mix and makes for elegant sipping as a pre-dinner cocktail.
The Reverse Jäger Martini can also be pre-batched, with or without dilution, (see how to calculate dilution here) and stored in the fridge until guests arrive. The grapefruit peel can also be prepared ahead of time, cut into a coin size disc (refer to sustainability in the home bar) and served with the cocktail for guests to express its oils over the drink and around the rim of the glass for an interactive experience.
