Light and floral, the Lavender Martini is a vodka-based cocktail that makes for elegant summer sipping.
Vodka often gets a bad rap for being labelled odourless and flavourless but there’s no need to shun the spirit. Like other spirit categories, there’s the good, the bad and the very ugly and it pays to use good quality vodka with a minimum of 40% ABV.
The Lavender Martini is a simple combination of lavender-infused vodka stirred with Lillet Blanc and lavender bitters, the aromatised wine adding a complement to the floral notes. To make the lavender-infused vodka, lavender flowers are infused with vodka for a period between 2-5 days depending on the ABV of the vodka used (the higher the ABV, the faster the infusion) and personal taste then fine strained.
The Lavender Martini is best served as a wetter style Martini. It makes for elegant sipping in late afternoons and early summer evenings.
