The Amaro Week cocktail series continues with the Black Manhattan, an amaro cocktail that’s a riff on the classic.

Black Manhattan Cocktail Recipe

The Black Manhattan is a riff on the classic Manhattan cocktail that’s simple to make and super delicious. It swaps Averna for sweet vermouth adding a herbal, spicy and bittersweet note. We like it with a good rye whiskey though you can use bourbon as well.⠀

Black Manhattan Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

  • 60 ml rye whiskey
  • 30 ml Averna
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters

Glassware: Martini glass
Garnish: Maraschino cherry

Method

In a mixing glass, add the rye whiskey, Averna, bitters and ice. Stir until cold. Strain into a chilled Martini glass and garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
